Summer Paradise

Well, after all my complaining about how long it takes to travel to see Mom and Dad, I should explain that they live in a truly beautiful area and it's worth the final 10 kilometers by donkey to get there. :) So, here's my plug...Nakusp, B.C. is nestled in the Kooteney Mountains just west of the Rockie Mountains and Banff. It is situated on a lake with a beautiful sandy beach, plenty of camping, parks, hiking, and hotsprings.

The town itself is tiny, but peaceful. Stores close at 5pm, if not earlier, and on Sundays. The hottest commodity in town are the cheesebuns and cream cheese tarts from the local bakery...which is open only three times a week. :( My parents do a great job of picking up the slack by keeping a delicious array of food available. Bedtime snacks of sweets and icecream are the norm. :) Just ask Mom. Dad has a wee boat and if you're nice, he'll take you out to try your hand at catching some fish. The squirrels use the boat as their winter home (they've found a way to get into the garage, and Dad, being the softee for animals that he is, won't evict them. (Did I mention that I worked a summer during college for the Nakusp Tourism Office??) Well, Mom and Dad always welcome visitors. (hint, hint)
